The United States Peace Corps seeks a Medical Officer to serve as a contracted Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) based in Bishkek city. The PCMO will provide health care to Peace Corps/ Kyrgyz Republic Volunteers and will work under the ultimate responsibility, authority and medical supervision of the Peace Corps Associate Director for the Office of Health Services (AD/OHS) with assistance from the Country Director (CD).

Duties include:
1. Provide routine primary health care to Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers including treatment of common illnesses and injuries in accordance with Peace Corps medical guidelines.
2. Provide individual short-term counseling on disease prevention, adjustment issues, stress management and cross-cultural challenges.
3. Respond to emergency medical situations.
4. Serve as a member of Senior Peace Corps staff in Kyrgyz Republic.
5. Ability to conduct trainings on health related issues.
6. Conduct site visits to Peace Corps Volunteers throughout Kyrgyz Republic.
7. Ability to maintain Peace Corps medical database.
8. Carry out administrative tasks of the medical office including budget management.
9. Conduct and manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
10. Serve as alternate 24 hour on- call duty with the other PCMO.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
1. Graduate of accredited school. Medical Doctor must be a graduate of a school listed in this link, Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research https://search.wdoms.org/
2. Current license to practice.
3. Minimum of 5-years relevant experience in clinical care after medical school.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in oral /written English.
5. Experience in providing basic counseling.
6. Experience in training design and presentation of health related material.
7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and patient management systems.
8. Program management, administrative experience.
9. Ability to work effectively as part of an intercultural team.
10. Hardworking, reliable and diligent with good inter-personal skills.
11. Willing to travel to sites in Kyrgyz Republic.
12. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
13. Must be able to obtain an American visa and U.S. Government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ten years relevant experience in clinical care after medical school.
2. Cross-cultural skills. Demonstrates ability to interact with Americans.
3. Experience in providing health education.

4. Experience in managing mental health issues including counseling of patients.
5. Current or former Peace Corps and/or international organization experience.

5. _____ Three professional medical references, with at least two being from medical colleagues who have directly observed the applicant in a clinical setting. (One must also be from the current  employer.)
6. _____ Photocopies/scan of:

  • Diploma from Medical school/Medical University.
  • Professional medical license. If the license does not have an expiration date, written confirmation must be submitted directly from the issuing authority.

NOTE: Back-up Medical Provider Position – Candidates applying for this full-time PCMO position will also be considered as candidates, if interest is confirmed, for an opened part-time “Back-up Medical Provider” if not offered the full-time PCMO position. The Scope of Work for the “Back-up Medical Provider” is provided as an attachment to this notice.
The individual will be required to follow any workplace health and/or safety rules indicated for their position specified in Peace Corps policies – including complying with any medical and/or training requirements the policy/policies specify.
Compensation starting from USD $34,360 per annum, negotiable based on salary history and experience.

A contract will be awarded contingent upon successful completion of reference checks, background investigation and medical examination.
